Confession. Over the cold winter months I've gained a few pounds and I'm not feeling so hot. I have a very healthy attitude towards my weight, heck, I don't even own a scale! But I tried on a pair on shorts yesterday and they were a little snug. Not cool!
Last summer my husband and I ate a lot of salads and grilled meats and vegetables, not only for health reasons, but with the hot and humid weather, it was the only way to eat. I will definitely make two of my favorite recipes again, found here and here, but I spent a couple of hours yesterday researching new ones. I can't wait to share them with you.
Not only do I plan on eating lighter and loading up on vegetables and fruits mainly, but I want to re-incorporate exercise into my life. Now let's get something straight here. I hate exercising. The idea of running or going to the gym a few times a week fills me with dread. I can't think of anything more mind-numbingly boring than running on a treadmill. It's no secret that the only way anyone will ever stick to an exercise plan is if they're doing something they absolutely love. For me, it's always been about two things: dance and yoga. I used to be pretty intense about my yoga practice but stopped going when I moved too far from the studio. Then I just got lazy. But needing to fit into my shorts again, I've tracked down a spot close to my house and it's pretty affordable. The dance classes will follow as soon as the yoga has limbered me up again.
Now despite all my attempts towards shedding a few (just a few!) pounds, I still have a sweet tooth. I simply cannot deny myself the pleasure of eating a little dessert after dinner. One recipe that is both healthy and satisfying is a classic banana bread. I love banana in my desserts. I can never seem to eat them fast enough before they get over-ripe. This is the perfect way to use them and not throw them away. I used this recipe here. It has only about 4 grams of fat per serving and a little over 180 calories. It's great as a midday snack or, like me, you can enjoy it as dessert.
